Serpentine River Study
On the 21st of October Bindi Bindi and Karda went on an excursion along the Serpentine River. These senior classes have been learning about all aspects of the river including environmental issues, habitats along the river, the Aboriginal history of how the river was once and is now used and lots more. On this excursion a few groups of students were collecting water samples from each part of the river we stopped at. We also had some students collecting plants, soil or feathers etc. for their Occupations assignment this term.
Overnight excursion
On the 30th and 31st of October Bindi Bindi and Karda went on an overnight excursion. On the first day the students and teachers were on their way to Dryandra and stopped along the way at multiple locations including the original (now closed) Serpentine School that opened in 1858 and the Serpentine Dam. We had a quick walk/hike half way between the school and the campsite. Because of this overnight excursion we were able to see many nocturnal animals in the area. A group of students were able to practice budgeting money for food and cooking dinner for the rest of the class. On the second day a few students were able to hold a joey that the care taker of the campsite was taking care of. The students and teachers also took a dip in at Serpentine Falls before driving back; out of all the activities this was my personal favourite.
