The Children’s House children always thoroughly enjoy the hospital incursion that usually happens towards the end of each year and this time was no exception. Carmen from Perth Children’s Hospital brought a room full of fascinating equipment, props, puzzles, books and games for the children to use. She started off by explaining to everyone how the hospital works and what might happen if someone needed to go to hospital for treatment. With Carmen’s assistance, various children got to role play being a surgeon, a parent, a nurse or a doctor and of course many questions were asked and experiences shared.

After sitting spellbound for quite a while, everyone got to move around the room using all the hospital equipment, puzzles, toys and books. The favourite activities were riding or pushing the wheelchair and using the crutches. The morning went by so quickly, everyone was engaged and energized and the discussions about the experience went on for days afterwards!

Juliet – I loved dressing up like a doctor and putting a needle in the doll!

Willow – Playing with the doll house was fun, with the doctor doll and the boy doll in the wheelchair.

Thea – I tried very hard to use the crutches – it was hard to balance!

Florence and Sophia – We enjoyed making the skeleton puzzle and lying down on top of it to see if we were the same size.

Abbie – It was interesting to hear about “Fun–on-Four” at the hospital. I would like to go there and wave my hands and see all the coloured lights come on!
