Has your lower or upper primary child started forward rolling over the couch or converting their backyard swing into a set of uneven bars? Have they been bear-walking around the house? Perhaps they have been inspired by their gymnastics lessons at PCYC!

Gymnastics lessons at PCYC are possible due to Sporting Schools. Sporting Schools is a $280 million Australian Government initiative designed to help schools increase children’s participation in sport and connect them with community sport opportunities. Sporting Schools programs are provided free to children and their families to help students build the confidence and capability to be active for life. Rockingham Montessori School participates in this program as a recipient of a Sporting Schools Grant. The Grant supports RMS partnering with a community-based organisation to give children the experience of a sport they may not have tried before. RMS has been really lucky to work with Justin Sambell at PCYC Rockingham to accommodate all lower and upper primary children learning gymnastics over a period of four weeks. The instructor, Andi, has structured each lesson to provide thorough warm-up and age-appropriate skill development. She has used games and varied circuits to make the activities fun and non-competitive.
