The Starfish children began this term by expanding their social circles and welcoming new classmates into their playtime games. The children worked together in groups to establish class expectations and a routine has been set. They are now learning to manage their independent tasks and decide who to collaborate with when working on a chosen task.
The children enjoyed exploring movement and rhythm through Music. Eunice, the Music specialist, introduced a Torres Strait Islander indigenous song called Inanay. The children loved both the song and the accompanying actions, participating enthusiastically.
The Starfish children were also introduced to Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky. They listened to a biography of the artist and created their versions of Kandinsky’s circles using coloured pencils. Along the way, they are learning key art terms, such as “abstract painting.”
