The Sea Lions children have had a great start to Term 3. Children enjoyed two weeks of swimming lessons at Aqua Jetty and attended Boodjar Kaatijin (to understand the land) incursion at school.

In Class, children show great enthusiasm and explore Montessori materials and learn new concepts through engaging activities.

Later this term we will be celebrating Maria Montessori’s birthday in class. Children will be making a timeline of her life and will research her home country, Italy. We will also be making Pizza to celebrate her life. Sea Lions children have been practising skipping skills in preparation for Jump Rope for Heart, aiming to raise funds for the Heart Foundation.

In the Jellyfish class, the children participated in a PJ Day to raise money for children in Foster Care. Luci and Harmony from Upper Primary ran a scavenger hunt within the classroom as part of the event which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The children then enjoyed learning about the Great Barrier Reef before watching the movie Finding Nemo as a special surprise.

During weeks three and four, the Jellyfish class have been participating in swimming lessons at Aqua Jetty. They have worked hard to develop their swimming skills and have displayed great independence in managing all their belongings. Sofie said she ‘loved it!’ Nawab reported that he ‘enjoyed learning new swimming skills’.

Within the Jellyfish classroom, the children received an introduction to fractions. Pieces of fruit and a bar of chocolate were cut into equal parts to model different fractions. This lesson always brings great excitement to the classroom and the older children who have received the lesson before were able to share their knowledge of fractions.
