UNIVERSITY BOUND

Rockingham Montessori School (RMS) graduates enter University via a variety of methods, including Big Picture Portfolio, Uni-Ready Courses, Certificate IV vocational courses and the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). Using these alternative tertiary pathways, students have the ability to gain direct entry to a multitude of courses offered in many Australian universities. Some courses may require bridging units before admission.

The method chosen by most, and which has led to the greatest recent success, is Murdoch University’s TLC110 Unit. The students participate in a 2-hour weekly session at Murdoch University for three terms. In this unit students learn to think critically about current issues, apply research methods, locate evidence and apply it to arguments, while developing their skills in academic writing, reading and speaking. Essentially, it is a ’crash course’ in how to be an effective university student and seeks to open students minds to new ways of thinking about the world.
In 2024, six of our Year 12 students successfully completed the program and recently celebrated at Murdoch University. This enabled them to make early applications for entry into their preferred university degree programs. News is just starting to come through about offers of places in courses for 2025. Watch this space for more news in future newsletters.

Please contact Associate Principal, Tony Gillespie if you would like more information about university entry pathways available to our Adolescent Program students.
