We are enjoying a busy term four with several highlights so far!
Montessori Picnic
In week three, our full-day Friday students attended the Montessori Picnic at Kings Park. We were fortunate to have a beautiful sunny day and everyone had a fantastic time. There was a lot of excitement about the bus ride, and one student, who sat next to his mum (a parent volunteer for the day), said, “It’s like a dream come true!” Children’s House students enjoyed participating in activities alongside their peers from Casa Mia and Perth Montessori Schools.
Dylan Collard
In week four, we were fortunate to have a visit from Dylan Collard of Kalyakoorl. Dylan taught us the Noongar names for many Australian land, sea and sky animals and shared some wonderful stories about them. He also introduced us to some Noongar words for emotions and feelings. My favourite story was about the morning bird song. Later in the day, Dylan returned to sing with us, which was a special experience for everyone.
Diwali and Remembrance Day
This term, we are exploring various celebrations, festivals, and commemorations—special days that take place around the world, both now and throughout the year. Most children are familiar with birthdays and have experienced them firsthand, so we began there. From there, we learned about Diwali and had a special demonstration from Ayesha on how to wear a sari.
We also collaborated with students from the Adolescent Program, who joined us on Thursday to create a large poppy on our fence in recognition of Remembrance Day. Inspired by the Quatrefoil Metal Inset, we used four hula hoops to form the shape. Older students helped by cutting red and black fabric into strips to weave onto the fence. When we weren’t weaving, we enjoyed organised games like “Duck, Duck, Goose,” “What’s the Time, Mr. Wolf?” and “Farmer Sam.” It was a wonderful afternoon of working and playing together, and we loved getting to know each other better.
