Dugongs Classroom – Adopt a Beach Excursion:

Last Monday the Dugongs Class participated in an excursion that was hosted by the Adopt a Beach Organisation. Our class made our way down to Bell Park on the Rockingham Foreshore where Olman, our guide, led the group on a cultural tour of the Rockingham Beach area. We learnt about the trees, Garden Island dreaming story and local beach plants. He also showed us traditional Indigenous tools and music.

After a short morning tea break and a little play in the park, we headed down to the sand with Nora, for some beachcombing. After we had collected our items in our buckets, using tongs, we examined the items dividing them into – Rubbish, Plant and Animal.

We learnt that plastic is made of nurdles and these small plastic balls look very similar to fish eggs and consequently, are eaten by our marine wildlife and birds.

We extend a big THANK YOU to Jo, our parent helper for the activity.
