At the heart of the Montessori classroom lies the work cycle. When Maria Montessori carefully observed the work of children, she noticed natural rhythms in concentration and learning. The three-hour cycle provides children with the time to fully delve into their work, fostering deep concentration and self-directed learning.

It is a wonderful thing to observe the diversity of activities that children are drawn to, as well as the level of focus that they are able to reach when they become deeply engaged with their learning. The Dugongs students have been using the work cycle for all kinds of creative and productive activities, for example, making booklets, constructing geometric shapes, solving calculations, and carefully working with the materials. They have especially been loving the new addition of a keyboard in our room!
